It's been a rough year for the Champs.
Anyone else notice that the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-6) have the same record as the combined records of the 2 NBA finalists from last year? The Miami Heat are 2-2. The Dallas Mavericks are 0-4. The only defending champs from the late fall sports that are above .500 are the Carolina Hurricanes at 7-6-3 . And they have the 8th best record in their conference (Edmonton - the other Stanley Cup Finalist, has even fewer points at 7-7-1).
I'll go out on a limb and say that we'll have a new Super Bowl champion this year (and it could be the Dolphins). I wouldn't bet on Carolina to repeat in the Stanley Cup. Miami and Dallas will probably make the NBA playoffs, but I'm not banking on a Heat repeat. Shaq is already injured and Gary Payton and Antoine Walker refused to ride off into the sunset. They can't get that lucky twice.
So, unless you root for the Arizona Cardinals or the Oakland Raiders, your NFL, NBA, and NHL teams all have a chance for a run at the Championship.
This is why we watch. This is reality TV. We don't know what's going to happen, and we believe enough in our teams that you think you can will them to win through your TV - you can use your TV-telekenisis to make that bouncing oblong ball fall into the linebacker's hands. You can make the half-court heave at the buzzer hit nothing but net. The one-timer from the point hits the bar and goes in because you made it do that.
It's still early enough for fans to dream.
That's why we watch.

yeah, dont expect the Heat to repeat man. Mavs still adjusting, they still could be a team to beat in the West. Theyre just rusty right now.
