As the QB is one of the most visible -- if not the most visible -- positions on any team, NFL.com has yet another QB poll up today:
Which of these backup QBs that switched teams in the offseason would succeed the most if pressed into service?
- 42%: Brian Griese CHI
- 22%: Jeff Garcia PHI
- 12%: Gus Frerotte STL
- 6%: Anthony Wright CIN
- 6%: Mike McMahon MIN
- 6%: Craig Nall BUF
- 3%: Todd Collins WAS
- 2%: Sage Rosenfels HOU
Personally, I voted for Gus Frerotte. Given the year Miami had in 2004/5, the fact that he led the Dolphins to a 9-7 season last year is quite impressive.
Brian Griese? Dude broke his ankle tripping over his dog. Good enough QB, but is he ahead of or behind Orton, who managed the team to the playoffs last year.
Jeff Garcia? Mobile enough to fit in Andy Reid's offense, but my confidence in him is down lately.
Anthony Wright? He showed flashes of talent with the Ravens, but the Bengals actually have an offense. I'm sure he could do at least as well as Orton did last year.
Sage Rosenfels? I bet he could've done better than Alex Smith if he'd started in SF last year.
The other guys, I don't know enough about them to pass judgement. Except for McMahon, I've never even seen them play. Craig Nall probably has a shot at starting in Buffalo, given JP Losman's hit-or-miss performance last year, but as for Todd Collins... he's thrown one TD pass this century. I need to see more to be impressed.
