Whatever

What can I say? We all knew it, but confirmation is in. The man is a cheater.

Having just finished Juicing the Game and just starting Juiced, I am hyper-aware at this point as to how steroids are affecting baseball. I've heard all the arguments pro and con. I even felt at one point that I shouldn't care. But then I realized that I would care if a guy was doing cocaine every day to get up for baseball. And steroids are probably better than cocaine at making you better at the game. So that did it. Guys doing steroids need to be done. Screw 'em. It's cheating. I don't care if baseball hadn't banned them yet. They were *ILLEGAL* drugs then and they're illegal drugs now. Illegal. That's all I need. So Barry, and anyone who defends him, screw yourselves. He cheated, and you're making justifications. Because the guy bombs.

I saw him take a coveted young pitcher, live, well into the bay, and I was pissed. I was pissed because it wasn't fair. And 40,000 people around me didn't give a shit. Well, Giants fans, you suck anyway, but screw you too. He cheats. And save the "steroids can't help you hit a fastball" argument and read the article. It can. Barry himself said so. Eyesight, improved. Reaction time, improved. Case, closed.

Law316:

You make a solid argument about how a fan must feel after finding out an athlete has taken steroids for years. But you let your emotions get the best of you when you call him a cheater. A cheater is someone who breaks the rules in order to improve himself. Steroids were not against the rules back then. Bonds and HUNDREDS of other players (pitchers and position players) took steroids to try and do better. They were not illegal drugs back then like you say they were. I am torn about how I feel about him because he is clearly one of the best baseball players of all time (even before he started taking steroids) but he used something that not every player was using to enhance his performance. I'm not a Giants fan, in fact a Red Sox and Dodgers fan, but what Bonds did from 1998-2003 was not against the rules at the time, therefore it is 'unfair' to call him a cheater. And if he continues to jack the ball out of the park, and have an astronomical on base percentage like I predict he does the next couple of years, I wanna see if you will still consider him a 'cheater.' Peace.

Emotion was what I based my entire post on. I can't look at it objectively as a fan. Also, when I said the drugs were illegal, I meant against the law, not baseball's rules. Steroids were outlawed in the late 80's or early 90's, so whether or not baseball had banned them is of no consequence to me. I am against doing illegal drugs, period, and think that illegal means illegal, whether or not your sport cares. Thanks for reading and commenting. This issue is not going to go away soon, and I can't seem to think of anythig else when it comes to baseball.

Dave:

Steroids are illegal in this country. Hank Aaron's record should be protected. This is not an emotional response. He didn't reach the levels he's reached legitimately. Would a man with a spring loaded robotic arm and electronic sensors be allowed to surpass Aarons record? The whole thing is a travesty. You can't put the rule book under the microscope to protect him. He betrayed the fans trust. His numbers are no more significant than a batting machine. If he had any class he would retire and allow legitimate and honest men play the game.
