Bode Miller on his 0-for-Olympics, where he failed to complete 3 of the 5 events he entered, "I just did it my way. I'm not a martyr, and I'm not a do-gooder. I just want to go out and rock. And man, I rocked here,"
More quotes from an interview with the AP:
"The expectations were other people's," Miller said. "I'm comfortable with what I've accomplished, including at the Olympics. I came in here to race as hard as I could. That was my obligation to myself."Too bad that's where he performed best..."I've been living my life as if I might have died two weeks before the Olympics started," he said. "That left me the opportunity to dig deep, to go down that other route, to make more sacrifices and get back to where I was."
"My quality of life is the priority. I wanted to have fun here, to enjoy the Olympic experience, not be holed up in a closet and not ever leave your room," he said. "People said, 'Why can't you stay in for the two weeks, three weeks? You've got the rest of your life to experience the games the way everybody else does.' But I like the whole package. I always have."
"Look at what happened to Rahlves. He was holed up in his RV, he's probably the fittest guy out here and he made a point of talking about how important the Olympics were to him," Miller said. "And then look - a little bad luck and he's got nothing to show for the whole thing.
"Me, it's been an awesome two weeks," Miller said. "I got to party and socialize at an Olympic level."
Update: This picture pretty much sums up Bode's time in Torino...

So.....let me get this straight. The US spent MILLIONS of dollars on their athletes to best prepare them for the competitve nature of the Olympics. Hundreds of individuals spent COUNTLESS hours not only coaching, but coordinating travel efforts, all of the necessary paperwork, heck even their families SACRIFICED so much to allow these athletes the once-in-a-lifetime chance at fame, glory, and competitive superiority. And this jack-@ss decides that he wanted instead to "party at an olympic level" ?? What an utter and complete loser he is. Not because he didn't medal; rather, he didn't try.....
I think he & Paris Hilton are made for each other.........

This is the end-state of a society that has become so self-absorbed and self-obsessed. Yeah, Bode, you're the center of the universe and the Olympics were really all about you having a good time. We can hope that his endorsement deals will drop faster than his chances on the mountains of Sestriere.

Yeah Bode Miller
You know those dudes that look back and say "damn I should have made the most of my chances". (Bode in a year) No one will remember the selfish little twit that could dance away the night. They remember those who work towards a goal and peak at that moment of opportunity. Bode is going to regret these days because no one really cares about the disco when your talking Athletics. Yeah... and bye bye lifestyle and endorsments you loser.

Actually, maybe instead of being endorsed by Nike, some company like Budweiser, Cuervo, or the makers of Viagra may scoop him up ! You know - you gotta try the product to properly endorse it !!! (lmao)

What's really sad is that somewhere there's a skiier who got bumped. Not for the #2 spot, or the #3, because they went to Torino. But somewhere down the line some poor sap got beat out of HIS chance to go to Torino because Miller won -- no question he won fair and square -- but he won the slot over the other guy, and yet Miller virtually pissed on that guy, because he was there to party and not perform.

Good point. We should've sent Bode there as a spectator; that way, he'd been able to "party at an Olympic level" every night ! See, now he claims that he didn't go out the night before a race. Yeah.....right......his performances suggest otherwise. The poor guy who finished #4 coulda done what Bode did, or didn't (depending on how you look at it), and if Bode were on the other side of the fence, he could've partied & found all the Italian chicks he wanted !
God help the young & foolish...........

Of all the bloggers and news dinks to comment on Bode, how many have actually skied anywhere near the level at which he competes? Bode won the world cup last year and the US media didn't even notice. Then, the big news broke, Bode partied after his world cup win! Whoa, now there's a surprise, a guy who's country barley supports his sport wins the super bowl of skiing and he has a big night out - One can't imagine any other athlete doing that!
As for the Olympics, Bode skied well, the space seperating winning and the rest of the top ten is usually tighter than any other sport, save the sprint events in track. Alpine skiing is a dangerous, fast and precise game, and luck plays a crucial role. Believe what you want, but even though Bode isn't a saint, he is one awesome skier. Most of you weenies inmedia land watch the speed events because it is blood sport for you, which of course is sad, and like all the weak Bode blogging, completely misses the point. Anyone who is disappointed by Bode should consider what he (and Darron Ralves) have accomplished in the fantastic, unreported world of alpine skiing, and then shut the fuck up.

Chris:
First, I do not claim to be a 'world class' skier. Nor do I believe you do either. My point is simple - given the magnitude of the event for which he was in (yes, he qualified to get there; I don't disclaim that), and the efforts of who-knows-how-many others involved in the entire Olympic process, it was apparent that he did not give anywhere NEAR his best effort. He was apathetic, almost dis-interested, at least in his sports endevours.
But man......he ROCKED there...........
