#5 Off Season Power Rankings

The number in parenthesis represents the number of points each team has. Teams began these power rankings in their first week with a number of points inverse to their standing in the rankings.

For example, the Patriots began as the #1 ranked team, so they started out with 32 points.

Transactions and the number of points granted this week for each transaction are listed beneanth each team's name and ranking.

. . .

6. Patriots (25 pts)

7. NJ Jets (25 pts)

8. Falcons (25 pts)

+1 Signing LB Ike Reese -- A very good move for depth, but not a top flight starter.

9. Bills (24 pts)

10. Ravens (24 pts)

-1 Loss of CB Gary Baxter to Cleveland.

+2 Signing LB Samari Rolle -- Why is the loss of Baxter a -1 but the signing of Rolle a +2? I believe that Rolle is the superior CB AND Baxter is not as good as believed. He (Baxter) benefitted from playing with S Ed Reed. Rolle, being the better player, will see greater benefit from the same situation.

. . .

26. Buccaneers (8 pts)

27. Raiders (6 pts)

28. Bears (5 pts)

29. Miami (5 pts)

+1 Signing LB Donnie Spragan from Denver -- Weather he starts or has to settle for another supporting role, Spragan is a big gun just coming into his own.

30. Browns (4)

+1 Signing QB Trent Dilfer from Seatlle -- Dilfer is smart, reliable and tough. Don't be surprised if he's starting on opening day.
