Week 16 NFL Picks: Friday and Saturday

FRIDAY

Vikings vsPackers

My gut pick on this is the Vikings, but the Pack has a consistent statistical edge in what I expect to be a high scoring game.

These two teams have stirred up a recipe for mediocrity. Each of them allows very nearly as many pts per game as they score, which is kind of scary considering that both offenses rank in the top five overall.

The Vikings put up 25.4 pts per game, but they allow 24.3. That’s a difference of just 1.1 pts per game.

The Packers aren’t much better, scoring 25.6 and allowing 23.9 (difference of 1.7).

And people wonder how they’ve each managed an 8-6 record to this point? If either ends up at 10-6 you should all be stunned.

Then we have Minnesota’s #2 ranked passing game vs the Packers #25 passing D, and the Pack’s #3 passing O vs the Vikings #27 passing D.

With the passing game nearly statistically identical on both sides of the ball, the best running team should have a leg up (and would you just look at my unintentional, yet clever pun). Here is where the Pack has a real advantage.

They come in with the #10 rushing offense and put it up against the 23rd ranked rushing defense of the Vikings. The Vikings come in with a respectable 15th ranked rushing O, but have to go up against the Packers 17th ranked rushing D.

Vegas picks the Pack to lose by 3, but I’m thinking they’ll win by 4.
