Texans vsBears
My gut pick is the Texans.
But the Bears are actually better vs the pass than the Colts (who beat up on the Texans’ passing game last week), just about any way you look at it.
The Bears have the 12th rated passing D. The Colts come in at 28th.
The Bears have allowed 19 receiving TDS. The Colts have allowed 20.
You might think that the Colts have defensed a lot more passes, because their opponents are always playing from behind. But that isn’t true. They’ve defensed exactly 26 more passes this season than Chicago has. Fewer than 2 per game.
So, Chicago has the ability to be at least as effective using their Cover 2 defense as the Colts were last week vs this same Texans team.
Sure the Texans have something to say about all this. But with Carr tossing 4 TDs and 4 INTS over the past 4 games, being sacked 12 times in the same span and fumbling 10 times so far this season what they’ll probably be saying is, “Here, you guys have the ball.”
VikingsLions
I heard something very sad this morning, I think on Fox.
It went something like this.
“The Vikings may suck, but they’re still the second best team in the NFC.”
Gawd I hate Mike Tice.
The Lions have a markedly better defense than the Vikings, but their offense is so spotty (and I’ve gotten smacked down so many times when I went with them) that I can’t give them the nod this week.
If I were going with the Lions, this’d be why. Joey Harrington maybe only tossed 15 TDs this year, but he’s also thrown just 8 picks, and rookie RB Kevin Jones should easily top the 1000 yd mark this season. To me that says a great deal about the core talent on this offense, considering the lack of success the team has as a whole.
Ramsvs Cardinals
The Rams, at home, are favored by just 3 pts. Over . . . the Cardinals?
Sweet.
I really like the Cardinals defense, lead by DE Bert Berry and his 12 sacks. They might even be able to manhandle the Rams offense.
But that danged Cardinal offense gives me cramps (because they never stinkin’ win for me).
