The Steelers went out and proved that they are the best team in the NFL. They now have beaten two undefeated teams in a row with bangs and not whimpers. Leading the charge against the Eagles in their 27-3 victory was Jerome Bettis and Ben Roethlisberger.
Roethlisberger is amazing for a rookie. Solid, poised, mature. I can't remember a rookie QB like him in decades. Most take a few years to get to the level where he's at. HatTip to Football Scouts Inc. scouting report on him before the year started:
Roethlisberger is a step below the elite level in terms of arm strength and he is not a huge threat to run but he is an underrated athlete and he has better arm strength than most NFL starting quarterbacks. Shows good velocity when throwing on the run and can be effective rolling out of the pocket. Improved field vision each year of college, shows a good feel for reading coverages and will make adjustments to exploit the weakness of the defense. Shows a lot of poise in the pocket and will survey the entire field before running or throwing the ball away. However, Roethlisberger doesn't have the elusiveness to make multiple defenders miss, he takes too long to reach his top speed and he is not a threat to break the long run when contain breaks down. While is able to throw on the run, the right-handed quarterback is much more effective when rolling to his right. Overall, Roethlisberger has ideal size, a strong arm and terrific leadership skills. Roethlisberger has more upside than both Manning and Rivers and he could become the best quarterback out of his class if developed properly.
The QB class of 2004 might turn out to be like the class of 1983.
