Week 4 Picks

Week 4 NFL Picks

My picks are in Italics.

Sunday

Patriots vs Bills

For some reason that I still do not understand, the Buffalo Bills are every bit as lousy on offense this season as they were last season.

Their saving grace is that their defense is, once again, excellent.

However, the New England Patriots are coming off a week of rest and were playing solid ball offensively and defensively going into their break.

Eagles vs Bears

I’m not a Bears fan, but I really have to love the heart they’ve shown this season. They’ve lost a series of key defensive personnel, yet played very tough vs the Minnesota Vikings last week.

On offense, Chicago QB Rex Grossman was especially impressive. He was utterly unfazed by the score. He showed more poise than most QBs with considerably more experience.

Sadly, Grossman is now on IR after tearing his ACL while diving and stretching for a late TD.

In his place is NFL - E star Jonathan Quinn.

Most people are awed because the Philadelphia Eagles are winning the games that they should win. They beat up on weaker NJ Giants and Detroit Lions teams, though the win vs Minnesota is clear evidence that Philly has a superior coaching staff.

The Eagles defense gets more credit than they deserve considering that they enter this game ranked a miserable 24th overall. If Grossman was healthy I would have to be concerned that Philly could even win this game.

However, Grossman isn’t healthy, so this isn’t a difficult pick to make. Philly wins, but don’t expect them to beat the spread (9 pts) vs a Chicago defense that has proven it isn’t afraid to go toe-to-toe with the big boys and is perfectly capable of doing it.

Colts vs Jaguars

I’m not sold on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Their defense is good, but not great (8th overall).

Even though their 32nd ranked offense is pitted against the Indianapolis Colts 32nd ranked Defense, they also have that 8th ranked D going head-to-head with the Colts #1 ranked O.

I don’t think the Colts can keep scoring 40+ pts per game, which is what they’ll have to do if they expect to keep winning over the rest of the season. But I do think they have more than enough gas on both sides of the ball to give the Jags their first loss of this season.
