Singh wins Canadian; wraps up POY

Vijay Singh wrapped up Player of the Year on the PGA tour, cemented his #1 ranking, and edged up his yearly winnings to almost $8.7 million by winning the Canadian Open. Singh broke hearts up north to do it, beating Canadian hero Mike Weir in a playoff to win his seventh tourney of the year. Only Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have accomplished that feet since 1970.

As I pointed out earlier, Singh's season is a testament to his relentless will and preparation. Other than his struggles in the first three majors, Singh has looked dominant this year. He has won four of the last five tournaments he has entered - including the major PGA Championship. Phil Mickelson, who was trying to give Singh a run for his money in the POY race, shot a 79 on Saturday to fall into last place. Today he was able to bounce back with a 68 but still finished in a tie for 57. Vijay leads Phil by over $3 million on the money list and is tied with fan favorite Mickelson for first in scoring average. It is hard to believe that the most dominant golfer on the planet is a 41-year old Fijian, but sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
