Opening NFL Sunday saw a lot of interesting questions answered.
1. Are Jeff Garcia and Kellen Winslow enough to help raise the Browns out of mediocrity?
After utterly dominating the Ravens defensively and defeating Ray Lewis and his defensive teammates soundly, I’d have to say that all indicators point to two things: Garcia and Winslow will be one of the hotter tandems in the NFL and; The Browns have a chance to be this year’s dark horse playoff team.
2. Who got the better end of the deal, Denver or Washington, in the Bailey for Portis trade?
There were no losers in this trade. Portis had a stellar day (148 yds and a 5.1 average and 1 TD). His replacement, Quentin Griffin, did even better (156 yds, 6.8 yds, 2 rushing TDs, 1 receiving TD).
In addition, Champ Bailey successfully locked down the Chiefs best receiver (TE Tony Gonzalez) and helped Denver make KC’s Trent Green look almost incompetent.
So after only one game it appears that while Denver has an edge in who got the better deal, neither team got ripped off.
3. Will TO make a difference in Philly? Can he help them make the SB?
4. How much of an upgrade is Deion Sanders to the Ravens’ defense?
5. Are the Vikings playoff contenders? Can their defense be good enough to get them to the playoffs? Does Randy Moss again keep them from achieving all that they can?
6. Will the Eagles’ shaky defensive secondary hold them back?
7. Did Peyton Manning’s megacontract hurt the Colts?
8. Is Gunther Cunningham really the answer to the Chiefs’ defensive problems?
9. Is Cory Dillon the answer to the Pats’ running game?
10. Who should start for the Bills, Travis Henry or Willis McGhehee?
