You don't have to like Bond... (Below threshold)1. Posted by John | September 15, 2004 2:14 PM | Score: 0 (0 votes cast)
You don't have to like Bonds but you better respect him, he's the most feared hitter in the majors. He broke his own record for walks in a season and now that he is about to embark on history is simply incredible.

I'm not sure where it is written that I have to respect him. If his use of steroids is proven, do I have to respect him? For all the years he has been so smug to the media and fans, do I have to respect him? The only thing I feel I need to do is recognize his accomplishments on the field. Which I absolutely do. But it takes more than hitting or catching a ball to earn respect.

It's not written that you have to respect him as a person, but an athlete I believe he has proven himself, roids or no roids, baseball is not about strength but more about timing and execution. As for the media, his smugness his own business, he doesn't have to be a saint to the media and I don't expect him to.

I've lost all respect for Barry over the years. He started to earn my respect when the Media wasn't trying to make it seem like the guy deserves to be revered.
That's when I respected him - when he went out, did the job and didn't cry about it.
Now? He's been crying for the last few yeas about respect and gotten far into my doghouse again by being not only a pompous prick but by having the media make him out to be a darling.
....not to mention him being pumped up ont he roids to break records.
