Preseason: Chiefs vs Rams

This is a summary post. For the full article, go here

Chiefs QB Trent Green looked great. Very confident, a quick release and he made consistently good decisions even under pressure.

Chiefs RB Priest Holmes showed little quickness – don’t expect to see many long runs this year. Again. – but he looked strong, patient and seemed to have excellent vision.

RT Welbourn, a very big boy, looked ok as a run blocker when he had help. However, he looked awful as a pass blocker and even run blocking when he had to block one on one in space.

DT Ryan Sims, not surprisingly, got no push, could not hold his lane and was easily dominated.

The only positive about Sims’ play was that he didn’t quit.

KC spent a lot of time blitzing, making up for a weak rush against the Rams patchwork “1st string” O line. If I were a Chiefs fan, that’d have me worried.

As for the Rams, RB Marshall Faulk ran consistently -- if not well -- inside, outside, in traffic and in the open. He caught the ball well and had good vision.. His lack of quickness and speed hurt him as he failed to take advantage of a couple chances to accelerate.

This is what I said about the Rams in an earlier article.

“ . . . the Rams’ D has lost both depth and talent, making the unit one of the weaker in the league.” and I predicted them to finish 11th in the NFC, 22nd in the league.

They proved this true in spades, while making me wonder if my ranking of them was too generous. They were slow, soft, often out of position, and just plain seemed to have no heart. They made Dante Hall look like Marvin Harrison.

LOL!What did you do?... (Below threshold)

LOL!
What did you do? Watch a preseason game from 3 years ago?
NO ONE saw what you think you saw. Even Jason Whitlock was more positive than you.
I am intrigued why you feel the need to post so many negative things about the Chiefs. They aren't your team, and so you know far less than you know about your own team. Your wild guesses and relentless pessimism just undermines your credbility. Be glad I don't feel liketearing apart the Broncos performances. I'll let the Chiefs do it in the opener. Get ready to be swept by the Chiefs this season.

In fact, while I think the Chiefs won't match last year's win total, the Broncos might not even have a winning season, with as bad as they've played so far.
