Sunday Thoughts
-- Tatum Bell had pins inserted into his broken finger over the weekend. Looks like a long recovery. I might be able to imagine DL Dorsett Davis taping up his injured hand and continuing to play, but not Bell. Davis doesn’t have to carry the ball.
-- News reports have WR Triandos Luke playing almost as impressively as WR Darius Watts, pushing hard for the #3 WR spot.
I can’t remember a season where WR competition was so intense. This is the first time in years that I haven’t had much concern about whether or not the young guys on this squad would be able to come in and produce. After Shanahan’s long history of drafting WRs poorly, this is a nice change.
-- Rumor has it that Miami has contacted Denver regarding a possible trade for one of Denver’s RBs. Mike Anderson has been named as the most likely trade bait, with possible compensation from Miami not mentioned.
This is a bad move for both teams. Miami won’t be seeing the playoffs this season regardless of who runs the ball for them – including Ricky Williams. So they shouldn’t be in a hurry to trade for a back when they’ll be able to pick one up and not lose anything if they just wait until preseason cuts start being made.
Denver is so close to seeing their constant goal of winning the SB realized, that dumping one of their better RBs, could hold them back just enough that they see that dream vanish. And Anderson is not only a good RB, but still their best blocking FB. They lose something significant if they let him go.
– Not much word about the competitions at the RB and LB spots. Cause for concern?
