Vince, I want to like you. I defend you in T-Mac comparisons, and I say you have the ability to be great. I sat through three seasons of you grimacing hoping that would happen. But honestly, now I just hope you get traded.
Who are you to complain Vince? You want out of the Raptors organization because they’ve missed the playoffs for two years, have a poor reputation and no direction, but the way I see it, these things are all largely your fault.
And VC, you’re not quite as valuable as you think you are. This is proven by the fact that you would likely have been traded already if the Raps best offer so far wasn't Shandon Anderson.
I just don’t get what you feel you’ve achieved here that warrants the attitude. You should be apologetic for the innumerable missed games, failed attempts at leadership and poor progress of the team. After all, there was never any question as to whose team it was. True, team president Richard Peddie is no basketball genius, but I bet you he came to work more days than you did.
I guess you, like all basketball fans, must determine the point where you go from being a potentially truly great player to someone that could have been. The time to do the former is waning, because to this point you haven’t shown me anything other than so dunks, a nice smile, and a very apt Gatorade commercial where your mom calls you in from the street for dinner.
You want to go to New York, I say go join Isiah Thomas and try to think of any ways you two could sabotage the Raptors organizations from the outside that you couldn’t do from within. The Raps gave you everything you asked for, and were ridiculously patient considering this is professional sport. The team was eighth in attendance last year and you gave the fans little to get excited about. But you better not slip up in New York, because you’ll go from InVincible to invisible in the wave of Spike Lee’s orange towel.
But if you’re GM skills are as good as Thomas’ than you’ll both be in great shape. After all, it was you who demanded the signings of Antonio Davis and Hakeem Olajuwon, and it was your presence that drove Tracy McGrady out of town. So thanks Vince, you helped out both on and off the floor.
I will never argue against your charisma, commercial appeal, general likeability and unbelievable potential. But I also won’t argue with results. In fact, I can’t argue against results, because you haven’t produced any.
So with that in mind, I say see you later Vince. Even for the most patient of Raptors fans, building with those unwilling to work is too long and painful a process.
