Some of those guys expect to be starters somewhere (though reality may have to b*tch slap that notion out of most of their heads). And this is the first news I've heard regarding Maddox' release.
But the real problem is that Denver is currently less than $300,000 under the cap, not counting the rookie pool. Even with some fancy cap dancing I can't see Denver with enough free cash to sign anyone for much more than the vet minimum for that player.
Which of those guys will work so cheaply?
Actually, chances are that several of them will remain unsigned as we approach training camp. I guess we'll see then if the risk of missing a year, or a partial year of football will motivate them to work for what must seem to them to be a ridiculously low salary.
As I've said before, I'd love to have Collins as Plummer's back up. I just don't think he'd settle for that. He's too good and has too much football left in him.
I do NOT want Warner, not at any price. He's utterly washed up. I wouln't pick him for sandlot ball.
I really like Tommy Maddox a lot, though it was a huge mistake for him to come out as a Sophomore and for Denver to pick him (at least at #12). If he's really going to be cut after June 1 I would dance in my driveway if he signed with the Broncos.
None of the rest get me excited. Gannon might be nice, if he can pick up the system. But he's become fragile.
Couch wouldn't make me sad and I'd still wouldn't mind seeing Kordell come in.
I hate ODonnel and seriously believe that he intentionally threw the SB. I'd have a serious tantrum if he came in.
Blake is a putz, so is Jeff George.
I don't have any problem with Kanell. In part because, as you said, he's a class guy. But more because I believe (possibly incorrectly, but . . .) that his experience last year helped him understand the system much better.
I also blame Lelie for a lot of Kanell's problems last year. Holy crap did that guy drop a lot of balls in the three games Kanell started (it was at least 9).
