A football lifetime ago in a galaxy that now seems as far removed from us as the twilight zone, John Elway was the Colts' #1 pick and told them to take a hike.
Not so long ago, in a galaxy just exactly like our own, SD traded a buttload of picks in order move into the 2nd spot of the draft and take Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf, saying publically that it was Leaf they felt was the real deal and Leaf they really wanted.
Even less long ago in that same galaxy SD had the first pick of the draft and took Peyton's crybaby little brother, Eli. They then traded the trantrum throwing twit to the NJ Giants for Phillip Rivers.
With Elway, the refusal to play for the Colts was not due to their suckatude, it was because of something between Jim Irsay and the Elder Elway (I never have heard specifically what). Elway said specifically and more than once that he would never play for Jim Irsay.
So, might Eli Manning's snootiness similarly be related to bad blood over the Peyton Manning / Ryan Leaf situation? What might have happened during all of that, yet behind the scenes, that could have caused some very intense and long-lasting bitterness?
Sure, Peyton Manning was taken #1 and Ryan Leaf #2, but there was a lot of build up, a lot of hype coming out of SD. There was probably a lot of talking and preliminary negotiating that we never got to see, too. How ugly did it get?
Does Peyton feel like he was played by SD? Did they bad mouth him? Belittle him? Tell him they thought he probably wore dresses when he thought no one could see him? Did that piss he, his daddy and his little brother off enough that now they're stoked against the team?

Why are you still writing about the Eli Manning trade? This is such old news. Still nice to see you comparing him to Elway. The Giants will be pretty happy if that's still going on a few years from now...

The article was posted on April 27. Why don't you pay attention?
Yeah, if I were I NJ Giants fan I'd be very pleased if Eli did even nearly as well as Elway did. Seems that Eli is going to a worse team than Elway went to. Does that mean he'll have an even worse first year than Elway? Will it keep him from having Elway-like success in his second (Elway went 12-4 his second year)?
Regardless of talent, I'm not sure Eli is in a situation that will allow him to win for another few years. Will he be able to keep his confidence?
It'll be interesting to watch and see.
