Denver will only take a RB with the first selection if the specific guy they covet is on the board. That guy, in my opinion, is Kevin Jones. If Jones is not available, Denver will take a DT, but again, only if the guy they want is available – in this case, that guy will be whoever the feel is the best run stuffer – , otherwise expect them to take a LB with the first pick.
You may say, “Hey, but RB Steven Jackson is a better player than Jones!” That may be, but Jones fits the physical profile of a Denver RB better than Jackson. Denver likes guys who can run low and have low centers. Jackson – who is reported to be anywhere from not quite 6'1" to not quite 6'3", isn’t that guy. Jones – reported at somewhere between 5'10 and 6'0, is.
You may also say, “But what about taking a WR!” No way, not when a quality guy will be available in the second and probably third rounds. Remember, Denver feels they’re already set at the 1 (Rod Smith) and 2 (Ashley Lelie) WR spots, so they don’t have to worry about picking up someone who will start this year.
