Bills, Bledsoe Reach New Deal

ESPN is reporting that the Buffalo Bills have reached a new contract agreement with Drew Bledsoe, avoiding a potentially disasterous situation come November.

Bledsoes contract, which followed him after his trade from New England, called for him to receive a $7 million bonus in November to trigger the 2005-2007 portion of his contract. Imagine the ramifications if the Bills elected not to pay the bonus during a playoff run, sending their lame-duck quarterback into a funk?

In addition to easing salary cap burdens for this year, the contract should give the Bills some flexibility in dealing with Bledsoe as newly drafted J.P. Losman matures.

The details of the contract were not disclosed, but Bledsoe has a teleconference scheduled for this afternoon with local media.
