Spring ball begins for National Champs

springusc.jpgSpring football starts Saturday, March 6, 2004 and the USC Media Guide is now out giving a preview of what's to come as the Trojans seek to pick up the AP and Grantland Rice National Championship trophies yet again.

QB Matt Leinart is being touted as a "2004 Heisman Trophy Candidate" while hottie/punter Tom Malone is promoted for the 2004 Ray Guy Award.

Coach Pete Carroll summarizes what's ahead for the Men of Troy:

“That talk is beyond our control,” said Carroll, the National Coach of the Year in 2003 after his team was named the national champion by Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, The Sporting News, New York Times, ESPN.com, SI.com, CBS.SportsLine.com, Collegefootballnews.com and several other organizations. “Our goal always will be to win the Pac-10 championshipand the Rose Bowl.

“But because of our accomplishments the past two seasons, we know we’ll be challenged to the max each game now. We understand that we’ll always see our opponents at their best. So we must take our game to the next level and be ready for everyone’s best shot.”

In other USC football news today, the bad news is fullback Brandon Hancock looks like he will miss this season due to injuries...the good news is it looks like it didn't take long to replace Mike What's-his-name.
