Here are a few more things that Denver fans are talking about.
Did Denver waste money when it signed Garrison Hearst?
I’ve said before that I didn’t see much value in ANY of this year’s crop of FA RBs. But Hearst was not a waste of money, regardless of my wish that he not be signed.
Why’s that?
ESPN.com is reporting that Hearst signed a 1 year deal for $ 760,000, I read somewhere else (I’ll post where if I come across it again) that his cap hit for this year was only $600,000. Either way, with a 1 yr deal that is the entire burden, which means he signed for damn near the vet minimum. Doesn't sound like a waste, at all. Sounds like a damn smart signing, regardless of his playing time.
Will Hearst flop like Emmitt did in AZ?
No way.
1. Emmit went from a lousy team, to a lousy team. Hearst went from a so-so team to an excellent team.
2. Emmitt was the #1 back in both situations. Hearst goes from #1, to probably a shared #2 or even #3 spot. But even if he, by some miracle, ends up #1, he's in a better system than Emmitt went to.
3. Emmitt was washed up several years ago. Hearst still has something left (though as I've stated before, I don't believe it's enough to make him a successful starter).
Could Gardener still be a Bronco this year?
Gardener could still be a Bronco, but that isn't very likely – at least if you put any stock into the fact that he badmouthed Shanny and believe that Shanny holds a grudge.
He wasn't cut. Denver won back a portion of his signing bonus and he was made an UFA.
I haven't heard any news about teams jumping at the chance to sign him.
I also haven't heard anything negative about him since he was given the last few games off last season.
So, maybe he's had some sense beaten into him and turned over a new leaf on the attitude tree.
If so, we may yet see him back in Broncos blue and orange, at a reduced salary and with an improved attitude and work ethic.
