Lynch is an exciting pick up and came off the market faster than I expected he would. Denver may also have overpaid him just a little bit, but not by much. Who knows, it may even end up that he was a steal if his play and leadership help Denver reach and win another SB.
DE Raylee Johnson and DT Luther Eliss joined the Broncos along with Lynch. I’m a little concerned with these two signings, plus that of Marco Coleman. These guys are all in their declining years and Eliss has averaged less than 3 sacks per season his entire career.
If these guys are supposed to pick up the slack left by Bert Berry’s departure, I suspect that Denver will be disappointed. If they’re only being brought in for experienced depth, great, they’re perfect. But who will fill Berry’s shoes? Will it be Reggie Hayward? To this point he’s only been a situational (pass rushing) player, which tells me that even the coaches see him as one dimensional. Plus he was injured last year. Will injuries be a recurring problem with him?
Berry is a damn fine player. I’m mildly concerned that his absence will degrade the D line, which could counter – at least in part – the considerable upgrades to the defensive secondary.
