Rumors have it that Miami is seeking a trade of wide receiver Chris Chambers, defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, cornerback Sam Madison plus anywhere from a 3rd round pick to a 1st, to two 1st rounders.
So let’s think about this for a minute or so.
1. Walker was over-hyped from the time he left college to the time he retired from the NFL. Moss is a bonafide ball catching beast – at least on the plays he shows up for.
2.As the deal stands when it was last reported, the Vikings were only getting one or two draft picks from Miami. They (the Vikings) gave up seven of them to Dallas for Walker.
2A. The Vikings gave up five players for Walker. They’ll only get three from Miami.
3. The Walker trade made Dallas a dynasty, this one will prevent the Vikings from becoming one. It’ll marginally boost their defense, downgrade their offense and provide almost nothing for the future.
4. Even if the Vikings got a buttload of draft picks out of the deal, in order for things to work out as well as they did for the Cowpatties with the Walker trade, the Vikings would first have to make a lot of very good selections with those picks. No matter how talented their draft personnel are, that’s a shaky proposition. It's unlikely that even with more draft picks that the Vikings could use this trade as the foundation for long term success.
Walker was way over hyped and the Vikings made an idiotic trade for him. The Dolphins are giving up a lot, but not so much that they'll be hurt very much and not so much that the Vikings will be helped very much.
But all that may not matter, since the Vikings are denying the trade rumors and Moss is already whining that he doesn’t want to leave Minnesota (of course, his contract doesn’t have a “no trade” clause, so his wishes are of minimal importance).
