Buffalo Bracket

OK folks, I'm on dial-up tonight so no links, and most importantly no facts (takes too long to look up) to interfere with my opinions.

They rolled the games out for the Buffalo bracket about an hour ago. My thoughts:

#1 St. Joseph's v. #16 Liberty

St. Joseph's is an A-10 team, so at least I know something about them. They have two good guards in Nelson and Barley. They also played a creampuff schedule in a weak conference. I mean, the A-10 has some quality teams, but it's not exactly the ACC, or even the Big East. If they have a "most overrated #1 seed" club, St. Joe's would be a shoo-in. As for Liberty, um, yeah. They're in the Big South and I look forward to seeing what color their jersey's are.

#8 Texas Tech v. #9 Charlotte

Are you kidding me? The General's coming here again? I watched him coach his last game for Indiana here in Buffalo four years ago when they lost to Pepperdine in the tourney. I've always had mixed emotions when it comes to Knight. Sure, he's a total a-hole, but at IU he always ran a clean program and grauated his players. Nonetheless, he's too big a jerk for me to cheer for him. I'm pretty sure Charlotte could have a backcourt of John McEnroe and Russell Crowe and the jerk-factor would still favor Texas Tech. I know absolutely nothing about Charlotte, but they have my support.

#7 DePaul v. #10 Dayton

DePaul is another C-USA team that surprised people this year. I love big man Delonte Holland. Other than that, I got nothing. Dayton is another A-10 team that I'm somewhat familiar with. They lost coach Oliver Purnell to Clemson last year, so most people assumed they would have a tough time this year, but they came together for Michigan State assistant Brian Gregory. This team has senior leadership at the point (Marshall) and in the middle (Finn). I'll be rooting for them in round one because a kid I used to caddie with ended up going there (damned if I can remember his name though). But when you have no ties that bind to either team, the smallest things tip the scales.

#2 UConn v. #15 Vermont

We all know about UConn. If Okafor is healthy they can win it all. Boo-ring. So let's go Cats! I can't name their coach, one player, or even which of the six cities in Vermont they play in, but they have my support. Anyone know how I can get a Vermont t-shirt by Thursday?

Stay tuned for more excitement from Buffalo.
