Williams to NFL?

Despite assurances to the otherwise on Saturday, both Los Angeles Newspapers hint today that the Men of Troy have more to worry about with Mike Williams' pending decision to stay at USC or go tot the NFL than previously suggested.

The Daily News hints that agents have told Williams he could be a top 15 pick...but would benefit from another season at Southern California:

"He's a lead receiver and could be a star," said an agent who asked not to be identified. "He has good hands, he's huge, he has a good mentality and is very good on the ball. If he comes out now, he would probably be a first-rounder.

"But if he stays, his marketability could be higher if SC and its PR machine builds him up. He could end up getting a more lucrative shoe deal."

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Times reverses itself--without printing a correction--now saying that Williams is having second thoughts about a decision made last week to go pro. This is funny because last they reported, the Times said he had not made a decision.

USC coaches and players, however, expected Williams to explore the possibility of entering a draft that also will include Pittsburgh receiver Larry Fitzgerald, Texas receiver Roy Williams and Washington receiver Reggie Williams, among others.

One agent, who asked not to be identified, said the depth at receiver this year should be enough to make Mike Williams stay at USC.

Basically, the sophomore Wide Receiver has a choice--stay in college, win another national championship and possibly a Heisman Trophy, OR start collecting a paycheck catching passes on the sidelines from Carson Palmer in Cincinatti.
