I won't even talk about the comments from our friendly Broncos fan when I was out of town and did not have a take on the Colts loss to the Broncos two weeks ago.
Congratulations to Peyton Manning and the Colts as they advanced in the most convincing fashion and get rewarded with a visit to Kansas City. I won't pretend that a win will be difficult, but the Colts are perfectly capable of riding all the way to the Super Bowl, now that they've gotten the monkey of first round losses off their back.
One year to the day after losing 41-0 to the New York Jets in the first round of the 2002 playoffs, the Colts opened the 2003 playoffs with a display of singular ferocity and efficiency. They turned the RCA Dome into a raging pit of sound and fury and the Denver Broncos into hapless victims.Manning completed 22-of-26 passes for 377 yards and five touchdowns as the Colts eviscerated the Broncos 41-10 in an AFC wild-card game.
"It was awesome from the sideline," Colts coach Tony Dungy said.
The principal figure seemed less than awed.
"I'm going to enjoy it tonight," Manning conceded. "We'll go to St. Elmo's and I'll have a shrimp cocktail and a big steak and enjoy it tonight, but I do that after every win.
"At the same time, Kansas City doesn't care that we won a playoff game."
Kansas City is the next stop. The Colts (13-4) will meet the Chiefs (13-3) in an AFC divisional-round game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
