It's hard to know if the stories about the Tigers' interest in Tejada are planted with the media to divert the fans' attention or reflect a serious attempt to sign him. If the latter it's not good news for Tiger fans.
Assuming that the team will not have an unlimited payroll, devoting the amount of money it will cost to land Tejada will not have a great effect on the team's level of quality and will divert resources that could be better spent on bringing in several respectable talents.
It could be that the organizations thinks that getting a name player will boost attendance. If so, the team has failed to learn from its own experience with Juan Gonzalez.
