Capitals fire Cassidy; Defenseman Witt out for possibly a week.

Capitals General Manager George McPhee announced Bruce (Butch) Cassidy will be replaced by Glen Hanlon as head coach of the Capitals. The official announcement will be at 3:30 PM (Eastern). A small press release is available on the Capitals website.

In other news, Defenseman Brendan Witt was injured in the first period of the Capitals 4-1 loss against Colorado, and may be out for up to a week. It is almost certain he will miss tomorrow night's game against Boston. This will leave the Capitals with only one experienced defenseman (Sergei Gonchar), one additional defenseman on injured reserve (John Gruden) and five relatively inexperienced defenseman.
