Bills Playoff Hopes Dead

After an offseason filled with expectations and a regular season filled with disappointments the Buffalo Bills were officially eliminated from the playoffs Sunday, losing a 28-26 thriller in Tennessee.

While much attention seems to be focused on a failed two-point conversion, the real problem was a Bledsoe turnover deep in Buffalo territory after the Bills had gone up 17-6 early in the third quarter. The Titans scored with the short field, held the Bills on the next series, then scored again. Game over. A moderately valiant comeback led by Bledsoe and Bobby Shaw, capped by a six-yard touch pass to a diving Mark Campbell , wasn't enough as the previously mentioned two point conversion failed.

So where does this leave the Bills? The Bills are a "bad" good team, as in a good team made bad by tremendously poor coaching. Rumors were swirling last week that if the Bills ran the table, Gregg Williams would be retained for next year and only Gilbride would go. Sunday should lay those rumors to rest, as even the national media has figured out what we little guys have been saying all year: Gregg Williams is a goner because he flat-out can't coach.

That's issue number one. The good news is, we still get to play spoiler with a home game this week against Miami. As usual, the Dolphins are in the midst of another December implosion, led by their perennially overrated defense. While nothing can save the Bills season for me, the pain can be lessened a bit this Sunday with a win. And it's not just me. How else can you explain another sellout? It's going to be a cold snowy Sunday, three days before Christmas, and the Ralph will be rocking because the out-of-the-playoffs- Bills will be playing their arch-rival Dolphins with the chance to knock them out of the playoffs. You gotta' love that.

In other news, safety Izell Reese is out for the year, so Pierson Prioleau will get the start this week. No Coy Wire again, I guess. OT Mike Williams and TE Dave Moore are officially listed as questionable. Travis Henry and Eric Moulds are both expected to play despite nagging injuries. If it wasn't Miami week I would say to rest them, but that can wait until week 17 in New England.
