"Baby" Joe Mesi on HBO

"Baby" Joe Mesi will fight Monte "Two Gunz" Barrett Saturday night at MSG as the undercard to the Vitali Klitschko/Kirk Johnson fight.

Mesi has been progressing steadily up the ranks of the Heavyweight division, and now is ranked fourth by the WBC. The WBA and WBO both have him ninth, and the IBF has him unranked (but they have Fres Oquendo fourth?) Barrett is unranked, and has beaten almost no legitimate fighters (although he did lose to the "other" Klitschko three years ago).

I know, I know, another tomato can for Mesi. But this one is for some big bucks, and is his second primetime HBO fight in the past six months. If he wins, I guarantee a deal with HBO will be forthcoming, and after that he can only fight so many more stiffs before HBO expects to see a return on their money.

It would sure be nice to see Mesi fight someone for more than 1:37 so we can find out if he can take a punch, or battle back after being hurt.

Anyway, 9:45 Saturday night. Even my wife will be watching.
