Thank goodness the New England Patriots could do everything the Sox couldn't this year - be on the happy receiving end of goofs, gaffes, and improbabilities.
The Patriots were 99 yards from paydirt. They were out of downs and out of luck. And what did Belichick do? He called for the intentional safety. As the Patriots lined up for a punt, Lonie Paxton deliberately snapped the ball out of the end zone. It ended up hitting the goalpost. Two points for Denver. The old intentional safety play. Pretty funny, right?
"That was a great call, that won us the game," said lineman Damien Woody. "We practice little things like that."
Given the option to placekick or punt, Belichick ordered a punt, and the Broncos failed to field it. The ball rattled deep into Denver territory, to the 15. You know the rest. The Patriot defense forced the Broncos to punt, New England took over on its own 42 with 2:15 left. Brady drove the team into the end zone with 30 seconds left on the clock. Six plays. Fifty-eight yards. One minute and 45 seconds. One miracle.
Tom Brady, 0-2 against Denver, brings the Brady Bunch home with a very, very sweet win and 1 1/2 games worth of padding over the fish. Never did I expect this to happen. Of course, never did we expect 2001 either.

Bill Bellichik sure seems to get an inordinate amount of those good breaks, eh? And poor Gregg Williams never gets any.
Oh, wait. Maybe Bill is a great coach, and Williams sucks. Nah...
