Well, this ranks right up there with "I accidentally grabbed the bat that I use to entertain the fans during batting practice."
They knew the test was coming, they knew the consequences and 5-7% still popped positive! Having no shame, one media outlet bit on MLB's spin ... "only 5% or so use performance enhancing drugs, so it's not a real big problem." Wrong. Only 5% or so are idiots and use steroids. How many are juiced and just above the level of idiot remains to be seen.
As usual in MLB, the players controlled their own destiny. They managed to limit the league's attempt at addressing the steroid issue to a token gesture. If less than 5% test positive, with the time of the test being pretty obvious, then the league becomes impotent (pun intended) on the matter.
One talk show host asked his callers if this news made them think any less of the league. I'll be glad to answer that. No! I'm still disgusted by what the sport has become. I doubt that it would be possible for me to think any less of it.
I had pretty much assumed that a number of players were on the juice. Maybe not in the proportions Canseco claimed, but enough to render a lot of what happens on the field worthless. Do I care which individuals are involved? No. Again I assume a decent number are, and in that bunch will be some big names. Who has raisins for testicles and who does not is beyond my concern.
Most of them are whiney, sniveling, overpaid babies anyway. They are free to wreck their lives and their sport any way they choose. I don't need the details. Just knowing that it isn't getting any better is enough.
