The Chargers go into week 11 with no doubts as to who will be starting at quarterback for the team when they travel to Denver to play the Broncos, that being Doug Flutie. The question, though, is what about Brees, especially if Flutie continues to shine for the Bolts. Do the Chargers need to start planning, yet again, to try and obtain a quarterback for the future or will this midseason rest for Brees be a well planned break and he comes back better then ever?
I have thought of what I think would be a great move for the Chargers at this point to save face down the road, but at the same time get the quarterback question answered before this season ends. It's unlikely, if not impossible, for the Chargers at 2-7 to make the playoffs, but I don't think they should give up on this season either. I think it would be a great coaching move if Marty came out, before Sunday's Denver game, and said that Flutie would start the next three games (Den., Cin., & K.C.) and then Brees would start the last four, regardless of results. This way Flutie, whether successful or not, and Brees both know what is expected. Brees has an opportunity to win a starting job on the team next season. Sure, if Flutie drives the team to three straight wins (over K.C.-am I crazy???) Brees could be on a short leash, especially since the final four games (Det., G.B., Pit., & Oak.) I feel the Chargers should be competitive. If Brees continues to struggle with the team then the quarterback issue should/better be addressed in the offseason.

they really could go .500 for the season if they beat the weaker teams on the schedule. flutie just wins, something magical in the games in which he plays. his size has been his only handicap. i think you have to let him play and let brees watch, practice and learn. how do you tell the team you are sitting him if they play well under flutie's stewardship?
