Halfway Point

Nick Eatman has a pretty good wrap-up of the first eight games.

For the Cowboys the past three years, eight games into the season meant they were halfway to the end.

This year, that might not necessarily be true.

At 6-2, the Cowboys are not only one of the surprise teams in the NFL at the midway point, but are tied with three other teams for the best record in the NFC, which has many an optimist teeing up the P-word. Playoffs.

Who knew the Cowboys defense would be so dominant, ranking No. 1 in the league for the last three weeks?

Who knew Quincy Carter would improve so drastically in one season, playing this well, especially in fourth quarters this season?

Who knew new head coach Bill Parcells, the king of turnarounds, could do so in Dallas so soon?

Well, there are no complaints being filed around Valley Ranch, especially after three dismal 5-11 seasons, having to go back to 1999 for the Cowboys' most recent playoff appearance.

Parcells has tried to warn his team and the media of the journey that still remains. With eight games left on the schedule, anything is possible, and the Cowboys are starting to believe the word "anything."

Remember, if history matters at all, the Cowboys could easily keep things rolling in the second half of the season. In his 16 years of NFL head coaching, Parcells' teams are 77-43 in the last eight games of the season. With the Cowboys, even a .500 record over the last eight games gives them a 10-6 mark, which should be enough to win the NFC East.
