Habs, Oilers to Take it Outside This Weekend

60,000 residents of Edmonton, Alberta are hoping for clear skies and no winds so they can watch a unique event in person on Saturday. For the first time ever, the NHL will play a game outdoors in what is being billed as the NHL Heritage Classic.

While the matchup of the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens is important to NHL followers, the game of interest to most Canadians is the exhibition game being played beforehand. The undercard, so to speak, will feature an old-timers game between Montreal and Edmonton alumni. Wayne Gretzky, who swore he would never play in an old-timers game, will lead the Edmonton team along with Grant Fuhr, Jari Kurri, Paul Coffey and perhaps Mark Messier, who must take time off from the Rangers.

Guy Lafleur will lead the team of living legends from Montreal.

The game, which will be played in temperatures expected to be below zero celsius, will be broadcast on CBC throught Canada. Those of us lucky enough to live in border cities will be able to tune in as well.
