Arizona Hires Mike Stoops

The Associated Press reports that Mike Stoops has been hired to be the next head coach of the Arizona Wildcats, who finished 2-10 and last in the PAC-10. John Mackovic was fired after the Wildcats opened the season 1-4 and Defensive Coordinator Mike Hankwitz served as interim coach for the remainder of the season and was considered for the job.

Other coaches considered for the job included Norm Chow from USC, Ricky Hunley from the Cincinnati Bengals and Johnnie Lynn from the NY Giants.
