Getting caught up in a great Kerry Wood performance (both pitching and hitting) diverted my attention from the latest group of Freaks. There were some outstanding performances that looked good on fantasy stat sheets as well as on the field.
Last week, Cleveland couldn't move the football on the San Francisco defense until the end of the game. This week Minnesota demolished that defense. Gus "Headbutt" Ferotte threw 4 TDs but didn't earn a Freak (more on that later). Three of those went to Randy Moss who returned to uberstar form and got his first Freak. He had 8 catches and 172 yds.
On Monday night, the Packers continued their dominance over the lowly Bears at home. Ahman Green ran for 2 TDs and a career best 176 yds. Green gives the Packers their first Freak.
He made be getting old, but Denver's Shannon Sharpe can still play. Against Detroit he caught 7 balls for 74 yards and one TD to earn a Freak.
We go back to the Metrodome for the defensive performance that stood above the rest. Minnesota only allowed 7 points against San Francisco. If that wasn't enough that defense also picked off 4 passes and sacked the quarterback 4 times.
What did the Rams' Jeff Wilkins do to get his Freak? He only kicked 4 field goals (1 over 50 yds) and 4 extra points against Arizona.
Saving the best for last is a statistically "perfect" passing game for Indianapolis' Payton Manning. Understanding the passer rating is almost as impossible as understanding the salary cap. Regardless of that we know Manning had an awsome game by throwing for 314 yds with 6 TDs. To make you understand just how good he was Sunday night, he threw more TDs than incomplete passes. Those New Orleans defenders must have looked like they were moving in slow motion to Manning.
Moss and the Vikings' defense, Green, Sharpe, Wilkins, and Manning shined above their peers in Week 4. For giving us all a whole lot to cheer about they've been awarded the coveted SportsBlog.org Freaks of the Week.

Eye, when it comes to fantasy football I'm team agnostic. In fact, I was really happy with the Viking's D because I have them on my team. I still wished they would have lost 7-0.
