UofM National Champion Hopes dim while MSU continues to win

Poor performance on the part of Michigan Special Teams resulted in a loss to Iowa State, despite outgaining them 463 yards to 295 yards. Coach Carr takes the blame, stating that due to injuries they decided to use a different punt formation. Michgan falls to No. 20, taking them out of contention for the National Championship. They play No. 13 Minnesota in Minnesota Friday, October 9, 2003 at 8:00 p.m. at the Metrodome.

For the First time since 1999, Michigan State has gone 2-0 in their first two Big Ten games of the season. Quarterback Smoker, who was named co-offensive player of the week, lead MSU to a 31-3 victory over 1-5 Indiana. Now ranked No. 21, MSU faces a tougher schedule the rest of the season. They play unranked Illinois Noon on Saturday, October 10 2003 at Memorial Stadium
