The San Diego Chargers have officially taken the crown as the worst team in the NFL from the Cincinnatti Bengals. The reason as it has been for the past 9 games, all of which the Chargers have lost, is lack of defense. The Chargers can not stop a team and the more pressure you put on the Charger defense the faster it collapses.
The Chargers go into the bye 0-5 with no visible positives. The Chargers have no offensive line to protect Drew Brees, he is under almost constant pressure. Where the Charger defensive line is horrendous, Leftwich had enough time to pitch a tent prior to throwing a pass.
The Chargers on paper appear to have the offensive tools to at least be competitive. Boston, in attempt to rectify his early season problems with the team, broke out for 2 TD's and 181 yards receiving. Tomlinson has yet to be effective because the Chargers are never in a position where the running game can be utilized...down by 14-20 points means the run is being abandoned. But no offensive line means both the passing and running game will be ineffective.
Charger fans are already debating what to do with the number 1 draft pick and how soon after the season will Marty get canned. Marty and his defensive coordinator, Dale Lindsey, will have plenty of free time this off season...and if not I will only expect more of the same...some pretty crappy football from a pretty crappy football team. I do not see a game on the Charger schedule that they can win.
