Gotta' be quick here folks. Busy at home and busy at work...
You all are probably aware that the Bills beat Washington Sunday, and did it in a dominating fashion. No sense reviewing old news. The best part of the game, by far, was not Josh Reed's 10-yard TD reception, nor Henry's two TD's, but was instead when Rob Johnson had to come in for the injured Patrick Ramsey. And got sacked. If I recall correctly Ramsey went out with about 5:00 left in the game, and Johnson had control of the Washington offense for two series. On the last series the Ol' Ballcoach bagged it and ran three draw plays rather than risk Johnson even dropping back. Needless to say, the crowd greated Johnson, um, enthusiastically.
Eric Moulds and Sammy Morris both practiced today, and I expect both will play Sunday night against KC.
Speaking of KC, has any Bills game in the last two years felt less winnable? I'm glad the Bills team we saw in the first two weeks decided to show up against Washington, but, well, KC is no Washington...
Bruce Smith, who needed 1-1/2 sacks entering the Bills game to tie Reggie White's "record" as all-time sack leader, still needs 1-1/2 sacks. Smith's stats for Sunday: 0 sacks / 0 tackles / 1 assisted tackle. To quote the philosopher Nelson Muntz: "ha-ha!"
Kevin Thomas appears to have resumed his duties as nickel corner, reclaiming the job from Izell Reese.
And what of Michigan State girls hockey, you ask? Twin 4-1 wins against Central Michigan this weekend, running their record to 4-0.
One reason I've been so busy at home: VH-1's I Love the Eighties Strikes Back. As a child of the eighties I can't get enough of this. One question though: how is it that Ashanti (great googily moogily is she hot!) and Pink (not hot) are able to comment on the eighties? Ashanti is 21, and Pink is probably mid-twenties. Ashanti was commentin on 1982? Did she have in utero memories?
Speaking of I Love the Eighties...I'm not sure who Donal Logue is, but he's one funny dude. Apparently he has a TV show that I never even heard of. Second son and almost-heir was almost named Donal, but we figured most people would think he forgot the "D" and call him Donald anyway....so he ended up as a Colin.
First son did indeed get to go to Dads alma mater to catch some high school football this weekend. Good guys won, it rained, and yes, they did have popcorn. A successful trip for all.
The Sabres shut out Calgary 2-0 over the weekend. They quickly squashed any thoughts on the part of hopeful fans by turning around and losing to Vancouver 6-1 two nights later. Of course, the Buffalo News was full of articles about the "Sabres turnaround" after the shutout. Sorry folks, but until they clear out the selfish, lazy players on this team (JP Dumont, I'm looking in your direction...but not only at you) they're going nowhere.
As my readers (both of them) know, our tailgate is geared to the visiting teams cuisine. Can anyone help with food for the Jets game? New York, it strikes me, doesn't really have a local food, because they have every food.
The Gregg Easterbrook issue is very disappointing. What am I supposed to read in the crapper every Tuesday afternoon now? Should I save Bill Simmons articles up? The whole affair stinks, especially as I consider Easterbrook, a Buffalo native by the way, to be quite pro-Isreali in his political writings. Yet, if one of my employees wrote unkind things about me on the internet he/she would likely be looking for work as well. Hopefully Hectors letter will land Sportsblog a new writer. Sean Hackbarth, who you should be familiar with, sums it up nicely, I think.
I'll be sure to at least get an injury update in on Friday.
