Just pure ugly: LSU 59 - UA 13

I think this image from the Arizona Daily Wildcat about says it all.

The UA Wildcats turned in a wretched performance on Saturday, losing the No. 13 LSU Tigers 59- 13 made even worse by the fact that I witnessed this tar and feathering in person.

I can honestly not remember such a whipping on the football field in all my years watching the game.

The game was filled with wide open Tiger flankers repeatedly streaking through the Wildcats secondary; an anemic, unthought provoking and unimaginative running game; and offensive play calling that saw a near full house Wildcat Stadium clear out well before the halftime show started.

The Coaching staff inspired no confidence that the error prone football will stop any time soon at their morning Press Conference today.

"We saw a lot of things from them that we had not seen on film, and we showed them a lot that was not on our film. But, you should always know that you are going to see things that you haven't seen before, and you have to be able to read and react in those situations."
. . .
"Well, the film didn't look any better today. We did have some guys who made some plays and made some things happen, and we even created a couple turnovers. But, the offense did not do nearly as good a job as it needed to in running routes, and our young quarterbacks were under a lot of pressure all night. We were playing against a veteran defense with our two young quarterbacks, and most young players will struggle like that against a very talented team."

Some interesting little tidbits.

-The Wildcats didn't register a positive yard on offense until six minutes left in the first half.

-LSU did not punt the ball until mid way through the fourth quarter, after the score was 52-0. Meaning, essentially, that besides the three times they threw an interception, for three and a half quarters, the Tigers scored every time they touched the football.

Next up for the now 1-1 Wildcats is the first Pac-10 game of the season, the 2-0 Oregon Ducks.
