Damn. And to think at one point I got so disgusted that I turned the TV off.
The great teams, the Miamis, the Notre Dames, the Michigans, figure out how to pull these games out of the fire year after year after year. The players and the coaches change, but the tradition - the mystique - continues.
I am normally a Gator-hater, but tonight they earned a whole bunch of respect in my book. They came into the Orange Bowl and took it to the 'Canes. Miami is lucky, damn lucky, to be going home victorious, but then again, that's what the #3 team in the country is supposed to do.
Either way, Florida played a heck of game. They are a better team than I thought (and I still think that Miami has a lot to work on if they expect to beat Va. Tech or FSU). I don't often think that a team should rise in the standings after a loss, but this justifies an exception.
What a game. I hope the Dolphins don't do the same thing to me tomorrow. I'll be dead before the weekend is out!

It reminded me of the Miami-Notre Dame games of '87 & '88 - it was that intense. Incredible game, simply incredible.

Ah the memories of Choke at Doak come rushing back and the sad part was the fact that after the first score, you knew the Gators were out of their element... I was somehow praying the Gators would create their own version of Ward to Dunn which effective ended the Gator comeback in 93.
This game will be the launching pad for Florida's 2004 National Championship run. They've learned that they have the talent of the big boys, just not have developed the mindset of closing the door and refusing to take anything but a win. Give Miami credit, when they were faced with put up or shut up, they fought like a rabid prized champion with pride and tapped into an inner strength that is solely available to winners hoping there is still something left. Tonight it was. Personally I thought the Gators would cover the spread but would always remain 7-14 pts behind, especially after the opening kickoff.
This requires major extrapolation, however should both teams run the table and let's face it - there is no dominant team in college football this year. It wouldn't be inconcievable to have both teams lock horns again in a rematch for everything. While no one wanted a Fla/FSU rematch several years ago, I feel that the fans, the players and most importantly the media would love another crack at Berlin/Leak and all the storylines that come from it.
The greatest weakness for UF is still their front 7. Their LB's are slow and their D-line is undersized. We will get it corrected, it just takes time.
In the end, I'm extremely disappointed in the game's finality, however the seeds of these Gators have been planted from this game. Like Miami when they lost at Washington 3 yrs ago, I want to see what fruit is borne from the Orange Bowl, will it be a bumper crop, or will it be a bunch of lemons.
