HBO Boxing After Dark

I would be remiss if I did not take the opportunity to promote "Baby" Joe Mesi. Joe grew up down the street from me (he was 3-4 years behind me in school) so I have to hype this young heavyweight who happens to be a fellow alum of Sweet Home High School.

There was a nice article in USA Today about the card for HBO's Boxing After Dark Saturday night here in Buffalo, and Larry Merchant breaks down the strengths and weaknesses of the new heavyweight contenders.

I will be the first to admit that Mesi's career thus far has consisted of him pummelling tomato cans, but he is 26-0 with 24 KO's. And he will pull 15,000 fans to the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation Arena (HSBC) to see a dying sport.

I usually catch the fights on HBO on Saturday nights, so it will be nice to actually see people attending a fight, which has not been the case in most of the fights I've watched recently.

So watch the fight, darn it. And cheer for Buffalo's Baby Joe, 'cause we both go to the same barber as well.
