Preseason Injuries

To date, the Steelers have not been plagued with pre-season injuries. With some high profile players getting potentially season-ending injuries, there are rumblings about shortening the preseason from 4 games to 2.

Pittsburgh coach Bill Cowher stresses the need for a 4-game preseason, saying:

"If you play two preseason games, the starters are going to play in those two and you're not going to have any chance to evaluate. You have to have four games to not just get those players ready to play so there won't be more injuries that first week, but you have to get those players ready who have to step in.

"The quality of the game is not just with the first group. The quality of the game is when a guy goes down and you're able to put a guy in who's going to blend in with the other players. And the only way they are going to blend in is with experience and the only way they are going to get experience is if they have a chance to play in the preseason."

If you cut the number of pr... (Below threshold)

If you cut the number of pre-season games you're in effect relying on Arena Football and NFL Europe to be your training ground for the undrafted. That's ok, but not as good as real NFL game experience.
